Shots fired at Joel Osteen’s Houston megachurch

There was a shooting at pastor Joel Osteen’s Lakewood Church in Houston on Sunday, the church and Houston Police said.

Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez posted on X, formerly Twitter, that the shooter was “down” at the scene and that local law enforcement was clearing the church campus.

The shooting was first reported just before 3:30 p.m. It is unknown if any churchgoers were injured or killed.

“Our hearts are with those impacted by today’s tragic shooting and the entire Lakewood Church community in Houston,” Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) said in a statement. “Places of worship are sacred.”

The governor added he has been in contact with local and state officials to “help this community and help bring swift justice to the criminal who committed this heinous act.”
