Former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe shot while giving campaign speech abcnews.go.com
Former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has been shot while giving a campaign speech in western Japan.
ABC News partner NHK reported that Abe was bleeding when he collapsed.
Abe’s heart is in a “stopped condition,” ABC News has learned, and there are no vital signs.
Abe was in the middle of a speech on the street when he was shot. Witnesses heard two loud bangs accompanied by smoke that confused the scene. Police have one suspect in custody, a 41-year old local man and Defense sources say the suspect worked for the Maritime Self Defense Force for three years until around 2005.
