No plan to ban pornography on the platform – Reddit CEO Steve Huffman
Steve Huffman, the Chief Executive Officer of Reddit said during an interview with “Axios on HBO,” that the company supports pornography on its platform.
Reddit is one of the major social media sites that allows pornography on its platform. Twitter also allows pornography. Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and Tumblr forbid pornographic content of any sort.
“You can look at [porn] as exploitative. And, indeed, much of it is. And that’s not the content that we want on Reddit,” Huffman said. “But there’s another aspect that’s empowering. And these are people sharing stories of themselves, pictures of themselves. And we are perfectly supportive of that.”
Reddit has occasionally been the topic of controversy due to the presence of communities or subreddits where explicit or controversial material are shared. In 2012, Yishan Wong, the companies then-CEO, said;
“We stand for free speech. This means we are not going to ban distasteful subreddits. We will not ban legal content even if we find it odious or if we personally condemn it.”
