A woman has been arrested in connection to the beating death of Willie Lee Smith Jr. who reportedly died after he was attacked during a robbery.
Shianne Brooks-Brown, 24, was arrested late Monday and formally charged Tuesday for murder and robbery. She is the second person arrested in connection to the death of Willie Smith, 55.
Police say they lured the man to Flora early Wednesday with a dating app, offering a sexual encounter for $80, then beat him to death with a baseball bat and stole his money.
Court documents show Tyrone Leftridge, 22, used an app in the morning of June 16 to set up a meeting in Flora between Smith and Brooks-Brown where Smith would pay Brooks-Brown $80 for sex. Instead of a sexual encounter, Smith and Brooks-Brown spoke outside of her vehicle while Leftridge hid nearby, eventually surprising Smith and attacking and robbing him, according to Fox59, citing court documents.
Brooks-Brown admitted to police she allowed Leftridge to use her phone to arrange a meeting between Brooks-Brown and Smith on the dating app, MeetMe, according to jconline, citing the affidavit.
Smith, not knowing he was communicating with Leftridge, stopped at a Lafayette ATM and withdrew $120, as noted on a receipt later found in his car by police, the report said.
Brooks-Brown said Leftridge, who until then had been hiding, came running at Smith and hit him twice in the head with a bat, according to the affidavit.
Brooks-Brown ran from the area but said she saw Leftridge with $20 bills, a wallet and another cell phone later on, according to the affidavit.
Police say Brooks-Brown knew of Leftridge’s plan to hide before robbing Smith with a bat, according to the affidavit.
Tyrone Leftridge, of Lafayette, was charged with murder, aggravated assault and robbery, according to the report.
